Vision, Values and Ethos

Our Vision

Inspiring All to Soar to New Heights

We aim to foster an environment of success where everyone is offered opportunities to celebrate success, raise aspirations and develop their own character. Together we will build courageous, kind and thoughtful citizens of the future.  Our vision is to provide children with a love of learning, social competence and the best possible tools to succeed personally, academically, spiritually, morally and socially in a fast-paced, ever-changing world.  The caring, Christian ethos of Downham C of E Primary School is firmly based on our five core values, which remind us all that we must consistently strive to achieve and exceed our potential.

Our Values - The Downham 5 Cs

ChallengeThis is about embracing challenges, learning from your mistakes and forgiving yourself. It asks you to reflect on your efforts and achievements. Jesus encouraged his disciples to persevere, recognising that it isn’t always easy to do so. ‘I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.’
CollaborationWe know that God created us to work together - we achieve far more together than we can accomplish alone; we need each other to truly flourish. By working together and collaborating, we can ensure that all of our community flourish, using the gifts and strengths that God has given us.. The disciples collaborating together to spread the news of Jesus’ teaching.
Creativity: Each of us is unique and will flourish in different ways. This reminds us of the story of Joseph who used his strengths creatively to interpret dreams for others. God was with Joseph, and he learned to do things he had never had the chance to learn before. Joseph used his creativity to solve problems, by making sure that his family and others had plenty to eat.
Courage:  Courage is about a life-long process of challenging ourselves to be the best that we can be – even when this becomes hard. Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.’
Critical thinking: We challenge and support children in taking risks, leading their own learning and developing critical thinking to become life-long learners. Our children are taught and encouraged to be critical thinkers and therefore this helps to develop their philosophical thinking. Come, let us reason together.
