If you have ever heard yourself saying that when faced with your child's maths homework then this may be the page for you!
Maths hasn't changed, 1 + 1 still equals 2 and always will, so why is it so confusing and seemingly different?
We are just using different methods. At first sight they may seem confusing but when you look more closely we hope you will see that the methods are clear and logical.

Homework Helper Powerpoint
As we know many parents come up against this problem Miss Edwards, our Maths Subject Leader, ran a workshop on addition and subtraction. If you were unable to make the session the materials she used can be downloaded here (you will need MS Powerpoint to view it - for a free Powerpoint viewer click here).

Miss Edwards has also organised a workshop looking at multiplication. The Powerpoint slideshow to accompany this work can be downloaded below (you will need MS Powerpoint to view it - for a free Powerpoint viewer click here).
Maths Workshop multiplication materials
Division is traditionally the most misunderstood area of maths and an area where we may use different methods to those you were taught.
Miss Edwards held a workshop on Monday 3rd December to guide parents through division at Downham. We have put a link to the materials she used here. This will be useful if you went but think you might need a reminder, especially when the division homework appears, or if you couldn't make the workshop but want to find out more about division (you will need MS Powerpoint to view it - for a free Powerpoint viewer click here).
